When I was 10 I bought a dream dictionary (which I still own). As a kid I had a set of tarot cards and a pendulum. I took my horoscope really seriously. I dreamt things before they happened. I saw spirits in my house. My bedroom walls were plastered in every magazine clipping I could find about Madonna and I loved dance class.
I'm still the same. Even though I'm spiritually-minded and spend my working hours connecting with guides and other dimensions, my feet are on the ground (and I still go to dance class).
After college, I started my corporate career in advertising. 6 months into it I was clear it was not for me, but I didn't know what I wanted to do so I stayed. In 2002 I got the chance to transfer to my company's Bangkok office and lived in Thailand for a year. There, I read the book that changed the way I saw the world - Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsh (if you haven't read it yet I highly recommend it), and got into water fasting and raw food.
I moved to London and trained in acting. My drama school training was a spiritual experience for me, a time of personal growth and transformation that brought life back to a part of me that had been in hiding since I was young.
In 2010 I spent some time in a spiritual community on Koh Phangan in Thailand and had a profoundly healing experience with a ThetaHealer. Back in London, I was looking for a meditation circle to join and trying to learn more about ThetaHealing. I found a Theta meditation group - bingo!
The teacher there greeted me really warmly and said he hadn't seen me in a while. He didn't really believe me when I told him we'd never met. During the meditation I had a deep experience and I was writhing around in the chair. I assumed that was the deal. I opened my eyes but everyone else was just sitting there. I signed up for the ThetaHealing training.
At the end of the training the teacher singled me out and said I had to keep going with Theta, so I did. I also added other modalities to my repertoire. In 2013 I became a Reiki Master and I did a diploma in Acupuncture at the Asante School of Chinese Medicine. In 2015 I studied kinesiology and sound healing.
When I'm treating you my role is to support and witness your inner healing. You are ultimately the one doing the work, showing me the layers that are ready to be released each time we meet while I support you to release them. Do you know the question - if a tree falls over in a forest and no one's there to hear it does it make a noise? The answer is no, everything needs to be witnessed, including your healing. Actually, the answer is more like, no, there is no forest... But I digress!
In 2014 I moved to Los Angeles with my husband and founded Venice Holistic Energy Healing. In 2018, at the request of one of my clients, I started teaching Reiki.
As I was exploring Reiki more deeply so I could deliver a great training, I was left with a lot of unanswerable questions and things that didn't resonate for me. I realized the training I'd taken had been in Western Reiki, even though it had been billed as traditional Reiki. I decided to learn Japanese Reiki and discovered not many people teach it - although many suggest they are by saying they're teaching Usui Reiki (spoiler alert, you're only learning Japanese Reiki if your teacher is explicit about it). It made perfect sense to my mind and soul, answered all my questions and filled all the holes. I also trained in Jikiden Reiki which is another branch aiming to share the original teachings of Mikao Usui, the founder of the system of Reiki.
I'm trained to Master Teacher level in both Western and Japanese Reiki and I teach predominantly Japanese Reiki as I believe it gives the best foundation for a Reiki education, and I include pieces of Western Reiki to give my students a broad and rich training.
After my 2 sons were born I wanted to support other birthing people. So I created Reiki for Birth Workers to teach doulas and midwives (and other birth professionals) how to use Reiki to really impact birth outcomes. Not just with pain relief, which Reiki is amazing for, but how to treat all kinds of perinatal issues like hypertension, placenta previa, breech presentation, labor induction and lactation issues. I've taught it to hundreds of birth workers around the world and I'm really proud of this part of my work.
I also created Reiki for Parents to teach people how to treat common childhood ailments with Reiki. And I'm working on a class for birth partners so expectant dads/parents can be empowered to support their partners in pregnancy and labor and connect with their babies in utero.
The thing I love most about teaching Reiki is so many people have profound shifts after taking a training. They might not continue with Reiki, but it has such power to open, activate and align people that I'm always seeing magical things happen in my students lives.
If these things mean anything to you, I'm a Virgo (and Virgo rising), Manifesting Generator and an INFJ (although when I first did Myers Briggs 20 years ago I was an ENTP!) . One of the things that's most important to me is friendship. I strive to be a good friend, which for me includes trustworthiness, compassion and dependability.
I hope you find some things here to soothe your soul. If you're ready to jump in, I'll be ready to welcome you to a class or a session.
With much love to you,
Mitra
